Planning for the future and creating the legacy you wish to leave is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. Making a gift in your will or living trust, known as a bequest, can guarantee that your legacy endures.
Your gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the remainder after all other provisions are specified. Below is suggested language to take to your attorney for use in drafting your bequest.
Suggested Bequest (Will or Trust) Language
For a bequest of a defined dollar amount, percentage, number of shares of stock, particular piece of property, or rest, residue and remainder of the estate the bequest language should be:
“I give, devise and bequeath to (either MCGF, AUF, GHSF), a nonprofit corporation currently located at 1120 15th Street AD-1104 Augusta, GA 30912, or its successor thereto, the (sum of $________ / the_____ percentage / __________ shares of stock of XYZ Corp., / specific property, or rest, residue and remainder of my estate) *for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose.”
*If you would like your gift used for a specific purpose, please include instead:
“I ask that my bequest be restricted to the (specific endowment or fund, or School, College, Unit or Program) at Augusta University. If, at the time of my death, the President of the University in consultation with the Board of Trustees determines that this need no longer exists, or is not possible or prudent to administer as originally intended, the University may, at its discretion direct the use of my bequest toward a need that most closely relates to the original purpose of my gift.”
If you have named MCGF, GHSF or AUF in your will or trust, or included us as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, insurance policy or other planned gift instrument, please let us know so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes. However, if you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence, but you will have the assurance that your ultimate wishes can be carried forth.
